Snazzy Starfish

What can just one person do? The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is heartbreaking. I live diagonally across the country in Puget Sound. What can I possibly do that would help even just a tiny bit?

I am one of many, many artists from around the world who participate in a weekly, online illustration challenge. The theme this week is ripple—an illustration, on a 2.5 x 3.5 card, posted on a blog (http://ripplesketches.blogspot.com/) available as a donation of $10 to either The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies or The International Bird Rescue Research Center.

My illustration represents the vibrant, colorful starfish that live in our oceans. "Snazzy Starfish". It's a small painting that I hope, in a small way, will help cause a ripple.

Cash Cow Days

Cash Cow Art Exhibit and Auction in support of the La Conner Kiwanis—committed to helping the children in the community. The money raised goes toward student scholarships and support of opportunities for our local children. The animal theme this year is a pig.

93 Stop & Go. This little orange pig is named after one of my favorite drive-through restaurants in Missoula, Montana. The speakers where you placed your order were modeled after old traffic lights. (Maybe they actually were old traffic lights?) I was thinking that the burgers we ordered, Big Buns, were from 93 Stop & Go, but they were made at Brownies. They were huge, delicious deluxe cheeseburgers topped with a slice of ham and slathered in secret Super Sauce. Oh my goodness. Seemed appropriate to name my little ham artwork after food. And he is on wheels. wheee!

Nesting Dolls

The Lucky Dumpster in Edison, Washington is showing several artist's versions of nesting dolls. Mine are The Big Bad Wold and the Three Little Pigs.

Hay 4 Horses

HAY 4 HORSES


Janet Wold and Jane Meagher will be hosting a fund raiser for Equine Rescue of Marysville at their Gallery in downtown Everett. These two cowgirls are opening up their large gallery space to house a group show to benefit horse rescue.

They have invited local and regional artists who work in a large variety of mediums to participate. There will be paintings, sculptures, wire work, photography, encaustics, mosaics and so much more. The gallery will take no commission on sales and the majority of money raised will go directly to the horses for hay, feed and foot care which they are in dire need of.

Equine Rescue is a charitable organization 501 ( c ) 3. They have an all volunteer staff and currently have 31 horses, which is more horses then they have ever housed. This number has put them under difficult financial stress. The volunteers are working overtime and the budget is stretched thin. The need has never been greater with calls coming in daily asking them to take on more horses, which they cannot do. They have a long wish list, but mostly they worry about the basics of food, medical care, and enough volunteers to get the work done. This is a true labor of love for these helpers which you can literally feel as a visitor.

Janet could tell you all the sad stories of these horses, but they mostly come from some state of deprivation, abandonment or abuse, and Equine Rescue has taken on these noble creatures and saved them. They are cared for and loved. The organization has no outside funding. They are entirely dependent upon private donations. Let’s sell some art and save some horses!

The show will run from May 8th - June 14th , with an opening reception and opportunity to meet the artists during Art Walk , Saturday, May 15th, 5 - 8pm

The gallery space is located on the NE corner of Hewitt and Wetmore, in downtown Everett, just 4 blocks up from the Comcast Arena. 2831 Wetmore Avenue.
We will be open Mon - Saturday during the Horse Show.

The crows around here a funny, clever, comical and very entertaining. I've seen them on rooftops carrying a snake dinner, dive-bombing neighborhood cats, harassing eagles and hawks, picking through the brush for just the right nest building materials, and nagging us for bread scraps.

They are always up to something.

Recycled ART

The RE Store has partnered with Allied Arts of Whatcom County to present the 9th Annual ReArt Show. "Recycled Art is made from anything that is fished out of the waste stream. The waste stream flows deep and wide from each American home and workplace, so materials are abundant. Recycled Art can be inspiring, poignant, useful, beautiful, impractical, wearable,hideous, humorous, or just downright trashy." ~www.re-store.org
